This shit doesn't make any sense.

There's some pretty interesting books out there about Lynch's flicks, all of which suffer from some pretty pretentious jumps in logic, but they helped me to get a bit more out of them. For me though, there's very few directors who have such a mastery of sound--Lynch's movies are always some of the most well constructed purely aural experiences of anything else. That being said, I always find myself to be more of an apologist for the guy than a true fan.

But hey, I've got friends who like Con Air. What I know about shit could be published in a pamphlet, not a textbook.Tucker Stonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10793079084633425826noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8882610517765002247.post-14185813444336451372007-09-20T23:44:00.000-05:002007-09-20T23:44:00.000-05:00You know, I just recently watched Lost Highway for...You know, I just recently watched Lost Highway for the first time, but I'm having trouble remembering any of it. My memory must be getting worse at my old age of 28. There were some parts that were pretty good, like much of Lynch's stuff, but all the identity switches and stuff just confused me to a point where my brain shut down, I guess.

I do remember the saxophone being annoying though.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13867868039166531163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8882610517765002247.post-65192636947742637752007-09-20T21:43:00.000-05:002007-09-20T21:43:00.000-05:00I'd seen Lost Highway when it came out, and I did ...I'd seen Lost Highway when it came out, and I did feel compelled to watch it again after reading the article. I haven't read that David Foster Wallace article, but I need to sometime. He's one of my favorite authors, and I think I was waiting until I saw Lost Highway, since that was the focus of the article. If we're thinking of the same piece, that is. Like, he's more interested in provoking a visceral reaction than in making a point, at least some of the time. I mean, you can always assume there's something about identity in his movies, but that's usually pretty obvious. (David Foster Wallace wrote a pretty interesting article about Lynch, in which he claims that Lynch isn't about duality so much as the opposite--instead of everyone having a secret "dark" side, everyone has only one side which mixes the dark and the light in ways that aren't necessarily reconcilable.)

Three hours, though, does seem like a bit much.Dick Hyacinth's Ghosthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11199236541341734429noreply@blogger.com
