Barbara is a great character; she's quick-witted, smart, friendly, and imaginative, and those around her only seem less interesting in comparison to her. It does really work, and maybe my main complaint is little more than a nitpick, but it did skew my reaction to the book. Like I said, maybe it would have worked better with less knowledge coming in. Or maybe I'm a cynical bastard who refuses to be moved by emotion. Also quite possible.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13867868039166531163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8882610517765002247.post-62351772491136171342009-12-29T21:11:59.133-06:002009-12-29T21:11:59.133-06:00My reaction to Winter Men and I Kill Giants is alm...My reaction to Winter Men and I Kill Giants is almost completely opposite of yours. Winter Men seems inert and lifeless to me. I Kill Giants feels vibrant.

No doubt Winter Men is the more complex work, but it isn't organically complex. It's framework is steel and iron. And I can't bring myself to care about it at all. (The art's real darn nice, though.)Timothy Callahanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04078183191900311833noreply@blogger.com
