I'm really digging it. I don't usually do reviews of novels, but I might post something about it when I'm finished.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13867868039166531163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8882610517765002247.post-36816551195278746892007-06-25T21:20:00.000-05:002007-06-25T21:20:00.000-05:00Unless you're really busy I think you'd have time ...Unless you're really busy I think you'd have time -- it's a quick read.

I actually *have* heard generally positive buzz on the film, including from NG himself -- so quite likely my impression, based on one trailer, is wrong. Or I was too busy comparing it with the book. Or my taste is wonky. (On the film. Not on the book. I'm right on that one.)

I know what you mean about "pre-reading dilemma', and you may be right -- I might have spoiled the movie for myself, who knows. But the book is really great, so for me it was worth it.Stephenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16524368948187746248noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8882610517765002247.post-54791229098161189982007-06-25T18:20:00.000-05:002007-06-25T18:20:00.000-05:00Well, that's something to keep in mind. It's not coming out until August 10, so I might have enough time to read the book first. I should probably start right away though...

I guess I should clarify the "pre-reading dilemma" (in case it wasn't already obvious to anybody reading), which is to say that I'm hesitant to read the book so soon before the movie, since it will have me mentally comparing the script to the text as I'm watching the movie. Of course, the reverse will happen if I watch the movie first, so the question is which situation I would rather be in. Sounds like it would be better for the original text have precedence in my mind.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13867868039166531163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8882610517765002247.post-66809422800293937542007-06-25T15:30:00.000-05:002007-06-25T15:30:00.000-05:00Now I'm in the dilemma of whether I should read th...Now I'm in the dilemma of whether I should read the book before I watch the movie, which is coming out soon. Probably not. Oh, well.

I read Stardust recently, and liked it a lot. (I have the old $20 DC paperback, with the Vess illustrations, but not as price.) It's terrific, and is certainly worth reading even w the text. Based solely on the preview, however, it looks like they've Hollywooded Up the storyline something dreadful -- really made me not want to see the movie. But in any event I definitely recommend getting the unvarnished version first before Hollywood gets in your head and stirs.Stephenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16524368948187746248noreply@blogger.com
