Very subtle stuff, very different from his previous work.

The first issue was my favorite crime comic of '09.Marc-Oliver Frischhttp://comiksdebris.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8882610517765002247.post-15015123958918106122010-01-09T21:53:38.881-06:002010-01-09T21:53:38.881-06:00D'oh! Can we consider Ennis' Punisher MAX as crime/noir? It's pretty close to it.

Wes A.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8882610517765002247.post-48002905471187006882010-01-09T19:34:57.300-06:002010-01-09T19:34:57.300-06:00You know, I'm not as up on noir/crime as I cou...You know, I'm not as up on noir/crime as I could/should be. In addition to what you mentioned, Darwyn Cooke's Parker: The Hunter is good, and I hear good things about Scalped, although I haven't read any of it. I'm not sure how much else is out there currently coming out, really. I know Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka are pretty highly regarded, and I've liked some of what I've read from them (most, in Brubaker's case). I did like Rucka's Whiteout, and Gotham Central (which they both worked on), is another one that people praised a lot, but I haven't read. Other than that, I'm not sure what else is out there; anybody else want to chime in and offer suggestions?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13867868039166531163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8882610517765002247.post-67739087258060984962010-01-08T16:45:54.570-06:002010-01-08T16:45:54.570-06:00I had the same reactions as you had Matt. Some of the stories were quite good, while other tended to just plod along, offering very little.

On a related note, I'm looking for some good noir/crime comics and have gone through most of the usual suspects (Criminal, 100 Bullets, Sin City, Goldfish/Jinx, Back to Brooklyn). What would you recommend?

Wes A.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
