I think you are spot-on with just about everything you say here. The only real complaint I had was the end, but found out there is a sequel, which I will have to check out soon.Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07026099426503180472noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8882610517765002247.post-8026942635448951292007-05-22T13:46:00.000-05:002007-05-22T13:46:00.000-05:00Cool, thanks for the information!Cool, thanks for the information!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13867868039166531163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8882610517765002247.post-69466405573444242892007-05-22T11:34:00.000-05:002007-05-22T11:34:00.000-05:00Hi, I came here following a link on Journalista. Good review, although I already purchased PLAIN Janes so I can't say it influenced me. ;)
Aaron Alexovich is the creator of "Serenity Rose," the comic book diary of Serenity Rose, a reclusive young witch (in a world where the small amount of witches equals instant celebrity for them all). It chronicles Rose's interactions with best friend (and sometimes worst enemy) Tess, Rose's family, college, the other witches, and her adoring and unwanted fans.
You can read several issues of "Serenity Rose" online at heartshapedskull.com. Published by Slave Labor Graphics in black and white, the online comics have limited color added to them. That website also has a link to Alexovich's online comic, Vicious Whispers (featuring characters from Serenity) and a link to Alexovich's Livejournal, where you can see more of his art, including a sketch of Snow White for an upcoming issue of Fables.
You may be able to tell that I am a huge fan of Aaron A. and cannot wait to see his upcoming stuff.
- Brian Sotak http//madhouse-city.livejournal.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8882610517765002247.post-34497741385045957992007-05-21T20:35:00.000-05:002007-05-21T20:35:00.000-05:00Cool, I'm glad I could be of service! They're good stories of teenage drama that just happen to star Spider-Man's "girlfriend". Oh, and my wife also loves that series, so it's not just weird guys in their 20's who like it. ;-)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13867868039166531163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8882610517765002247.post-50923500478444793242007-05-21T18:32:00.000-05:002007-05-21T18:32:00.000-05:00Thanks for the review. So, I was surprised when my wife said she wanted more books like that. While I plan to get her the next Babysitter book I was also thinking about getting Plain Janes- especially after hearing Cecil's interview on the new Around Comics.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8882610517765002247.post-17385873416718502342007-05-21T16:39:00.000-05:002007-05-21T16:39:00.000-05:00I've seen some of Ross Campbell's art (and liked i...I've seen some of Ross Campbell's art (and liked it quite a bit), but I've never actually read any of his comics. I've been meaning to pick up The Abandoned (a zombie comic published through Tokyopop), but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
