I'll be out of town until next week, so I'll end up buying two weeks' worth of comics at once. 2X the money, 2X the excitement! Anyway:
New comics this week (Thursday, 7/5/07):
(Note the Thursday release, due to the holiday).
ACTION COMICS 3D VAR #851 3.99
I had considered getting this because I like 3-D comics, even if it is a bit gimmicky. However, I don't think I can muster any enthusiasm for it, so I'll probably skip it. I'll take a look at it in the store though, and I might pick it up if it looks cool.
ALL STAR SUPERMAN #8 2.99
I can muster plenty of enthusiasm for this one though. Part two of the Bizarro story! Awesomeness guaranteed!
BATMAN EGO AND OTHER TALES HC 24.99
I would like to get this collection of various Darwyn Cooke Batman-related stories (including "Ego" from Legends of the Dark Knight and Catwoman: Selina's Big Score), but $25 is a bit much to spend. Maybe I'll get the softcover whenever it comes out.
BLACK DIAMOND #2 (OF 6) 2.95
This series looked interesting enough, but I think it's a victim of my current "wait for the trade" policy. Hey, that way I can wait to read reviews and see if it turns out to be good.
DAMNED VOL 1 THREE DAYS DEAD TP 14.95
This was an excellent miniseries, so I highly recommend it if you missed the single issues. In fact, Oni was nice enough to send me a review copy of the trade, so I'll try to put up a review of the collection soon. Watch for it!
DARK TOWER GUNSLINGER BORN #6 (OF 7) 3.99
The miniseries is almost over. Hey, we might get some actual gunslinging in this issue! You know, this might be one on which to ponder waiting for the trade. There are some good backup materials in each issue; I wonder if they will be included in any collections? That will probably be the deciding factor for me on any future Dark Tower miniseries.
DRAGON HEAD VOL 7 GN (OF 10) (MR) 9.99
Another manga series that I'm behind on. But I see that there are ten total volumes, so I only have six to go!
FAKER #1 (OF 6) (MR) 2.99
I don't remember if I pre-ordered this series or not. If not, I think I will opt to wait for the trade. Otherwise, I'll read an issue or two to see if it's worth continuing. It certainly looks interesting, and I like Jock's art. It's one that I have had my eye on, but if I wait I can be sure it's worth buying.
GARTH ENNIS CHRONICLES OF WORMWOOD #5 (OF 6) (MR) 3.99
Didn't the last issue of this series come out like two weeks ago? Huh. You never know with Avatar; sometimes their miniseries take forever to come out (Wolfskin, Blackgas), and sometimes they're bang on time, or even early. Weird. Anyway, it's an awesome series, and it seems to be heating up as we head into the final couple issues. By the way (since I'm examining my buying habits), due to the slow nature of collecting these series that Avatar has (303 took forever to come out in trade, if I remember correctly), I'll probably continue to buy the pamphlets.
NEIL GAIMAN INTERWORLD HC 16.99
NEIL GAIMAN M IS FOR MAGIC HC 16.99
Not really comics here, but two new Neil Gaiman books is newsworthy, isn't it? They're both "young adult" books, I believe, and M is for Magic is a short story collection. I'm sure I'll read them sometime.
PUNISHER PRESENTS BARRACUDA MAX #5 (OF 5) (MR) 3.99
Now this is one that I should have waited for the trade on (although it would be near the bottom of my "Punisher trades to buy" list), but I've already bought the rest of the series, so I'll be getting it. I predict that many rounds of ammunition will be expended.
RUNAWAYS #27 2.99
This book seems late. Anyway, it's a time-travel issue of the Joss Whedon arc, and it'll probably be fun. I dunno, I'm not enjoying this as much as when Vaughan was writing it, so I might drop it after Whedon's short run. I guess it depends on who the next writer will be. There hasn't been any news on that front, has there?
STACKED DECKS ART & HISTORY OF EROTIC PLAY CARDS H 24.95
Well, this sounds amusing. Not that I'll be buying it, but I would flip through a copy if I saw it on a shelf.
TEZUKAS BUDDHA VOL 8 JETAVANA SC 14.95
Looks like the whole series is out in paperback now. I only have seven more volumes to buy.
Y THE LAST MAN #57 (MR) 2.99
We're inching closer and closer to the series' finale. It'll be a bittersweet goodbye, I'm sure. It's one of my favorite comics, and I'll be sad to see it go, but it seems like it's time. This issue, I predict a clip show as Yorick and Beth get caught up on the previous 56 issues of the series (kidding!).
-----
That appears to be everything of interest to me this week. Not too much, really. As I mentioned above, I'm going out of town from tomorrow until the middle of next week, so I don't know if I'll be able to post anything or not. I might have computer access, so I could bang out a review or two, but I expect I'll be pretty busy. So if you don't hear from me for a while, that's the reason. I might be able to post something tonight before we leave, but don't count on it. Whatever the case, I should be back to full speed by next week, so I'll see everybody then!
