Billions of bilious blue blistering barnacles...in 3-D!

I'm sure everybody will be talking about this, but I find it quite interesting:

Spielberg, Jackson Team for Tintin

That is, Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson are teaming up to make a trilogy of movies based on the Tintin comics. They will each direct at least one film in the series, and the movies will be animated with 3-D computer graphics.

More details at the link, but I find it to be an interesting idea. I love Tintin, and this has the potential to be either awesome, or a complete disaster. They are both very talented directors, and they love the source material, so I'm optimistic, but lines like this get me worried:

Jackson said WETA will stay true to Remi's original designs in bringing the cast of Tintin to life, but that the characters won't look cartoonish.

"Instead," Jackson said, "we're making them look photorealistic; the fibers of their clothing, the pores of their skin and each individual hair. They look exactly like real people — but real Herge people!"

Yikes. That has the potential to be a creepfest like The Polar Express. But if we're lucky, we'll get something cool like Meet the Robinsons. Of course, it will be a couple years before we see anything, but it's interesting to speculate how it will turn out. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

  1. This is the best movie news I've heard in a long time ... I don't see how either of them could possibly screw up something as perfect as Tintin, but I've been wrong at least once before
